Relieve Stress and Find Clarity with Marie Kondo!

For sure at this point you’ve heard of or read of Marie Kondo and her KonMari method of tidying and organizing. You might have your own story about how much she inspired your life as her work is incredible and hard to not know about. Yet, if you haven’t heard of this already icon, her book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” is a great place to start. And if you’re interested in getting a visual and audio experience of her, her show on Netflix, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” is super fun to watch and easy learn from.

Marie Kondo’s ultimate goal is to have people (you and me!) live with only what we really want to live with and let go of everything else. You can imagine that this would affect every part of your life if you really turned things over and and got honest about what NEEDS to go and what STAYS (her words, what “sparks joy” stays!) 

A few weeks ago, at the last new moon (remember I’m a yoga teacher!), I did a liver cleanse (see that article here!) and that same weekend after cleaning my insides, I did my outsides, too, which included my closets and dressers, etc. There was something that was so perfect about both kinds of purging that really helped to clarify things for me.

Because that same weekend, after organizing, giving things away, and selling things, I went back to my own life goals and realized I didn’t need that apartment I was/am currently living in any more and that I really wanted something different for myself and my future. That then had me evaluate everything else in my life which is leading me on this trajectory now…

Back to Marie Kondo and YOU.

Cleaning your home has so many great benefits for your physical and mental health. If I could really lay it on you, I’d say do both the liver cleanse for your body AND the Marie Kondo method of tidying for your home. The effect of a messy and untidy home not only weighs us down physically but mentally, too. And the cleanse will save your life!

Here are some benefits for doing the KonMari method:

  1. Alleviates stress - A cluttered home is a cluttered mind. Cleaning your physical junk will give you space you need in order to get clear on your life. 

  2. Sleep will improve - A tidy home is part of a healthy sleep regime. A mess causes stress! Keep your space clean and neat and get the best sleep of your life. 

  3. Get rid of those allergens - I cleaned and wiped and mopped things that needed cleaning and all of that dust is gone now. You’re inhaling a bunch of things that can exacerbate allergies and or asthma . You’ve likely not looked into some of those boxes or closets in months or even years! 

  4. It’s exercise - This is active cardio! Shake your bones and inspire your own life. It truly is like magic!

  5. It’s like a shopping spree! I’ve been wearing some older pieces of clothing that I forgot about and getting some compliments on them, too! Haven’t bought clothing for myself since last year! What have your forgotten that’s in your closet?

Honestly, it’s really nice to have super organized closets and I know where everything is now. But more than anything, I feel like I really know what I want in life.

Right before the holidays, I felt a deep depression and extreme overwhelm but I also knew deep down I was kicking my own crappy life cans down the road which I wasn’t dealing with. Recognizing back then that I was also throwing things haphazardly into my closets, into my drawers, on my credit card, and sadly even with my body by eating poorly, I knew I needed to really shake things up.

And they have! Right now I feel more confident, I feel in control, and I feel more peaceful. Stress is somewhat under control and I definitely have clarity. I hope you try these methods, too!
