Finding the Right Balance
If you're in DC, you know it finally, feels like summer is over now and fall has arrived. Personally, I love it. I truly enjoy all of the seasons, but there's something about the transition happening all around the fall: the leaves changing color and falling to the ground, the crisper air and, of course, the start of sweater weather. I love a cozy sweater.
It's also a time of transition when we can feel a little off balance. We might not have our sweater handy on a walk and be underdressed. Or we eat uncooked foods like a salad that are too light (and cold) to process for our bodies (remember we're cold!). And maybe the air is too crisp and dry that we feel dehydrated.
There's also an emotional change that takes place within us. The days are getting shorter and our energy levels might be dropping some. In these transition periods, we can sometimes feel off balance as we seek to readjust to all the changes around us. So now is a particularly important time to take care of ourselves.
Just like we need proper clothing when it's cold out, we need warming, grounding and nourishing foods to help stabilize us. We need to hydrate and moisturize our body with water more than normal. And mindful movement such as yoga and long walks can be especially important as we prepare for winter.
Again, I LOVE this season for so many reasons. Did I already mention the cozy clothing bit? But it's also the perfect time to transition our diets some, personally I turn more to delicious soups and drink more tea! Here are some really yummy recipes perfect for the season. I especially like the honey, ginger, lemon and turmeric tea recipe. You'll also find the very simple and easy dal there, too. Check them out. (I tried out this new recipe, Hungarian Mushroom soup, on the weekend that is incredible! Using vegan sour cream that I will use in my upcoming Borscht recipe!)
So as the ground gets a little crunchier underneath us, bundle up, get outside, moisturize, do yoga, and then come back home for something warm and tasty. Enjoy!
